01 — Overview

This compact yet luxurious backyard overhaul proves that smart design can make even small spaces feel like a private resort. The client wanted a fresh, cohesive look that was practical for everyday use and elevated for entertaining.

Design Approach

We began by replacing the entire perimeter fence, installing a modern gate and double rock board to provide a clean visual base and long-term durability. From there, we focused on unifying the yard with turf. What was once a scatter of gravel and bare zones around the pool is now finished with lush, high-quality artificial turf. Ghis extends the side yard to the back door and creates a soft, family-friendly surface for kids to play and guests to enjoy.

At the center of the yard sits a custom 10×6 cantilever IRP pergola. Crafted from airplane-grade aluminum with insulated oak-toned roof panels, this structure balances shade and style. Decorative cross beams, integrated lighting, and hidden electrical lines elevate the aesthetic while keeping the space highly functional. Heavy-duty footings support the oversized posts, ensuring long-lasting stability through Houston’s seasons.

The outdoor kitchen continues the clean, modern theme. Built from block and finished in smooth white stucco, it features a polished concrete countertop, stainless grill, built-in fridge, and essential storage drawers. The backsplash steals the show with a bold tile choice and breaks from the usual mosaics to add a unique, custom finish that gives the entire kitchen personality.
