Full sun opens up sod, putting greens, and planting that would never take in a shaded Memorial yard, but it also means shade has to be built rather than borrowed. Flat lots in newer subdivisions drain slowly and often sheet toward the house or the neighbor, so grade, area drains, and where the water is going to end up get resolved first. Most Katy neighborhoods also run architectural review through an HOA, and we prepare those submittals as part of the project.

Newer construction gives clean lines to work with and few existing features to negotiate. The design usually earns its keep by creating structure — level changes, a built shade element, and planted edges — so the yard stops reading as a fenced rectangle.
