How much does sod installation cost in Houston?
Most sod installations run $3,500 to $12,000, or roughly $1.50 to $2.75 per square foot installed. Area, variety, how much old turf has to be removed, and how much soil preparation the ground needs are the main variables.
St. Augustine, Zoysia, or Bermuda for a Houston lawn?
St. Augustine handles the shade our tree canopy creates and is the default for most Houston yards. Zoysia is denser, finer, and more drought tolerant but slower to establish and more expensive. Bermuda needs full sun and heavy traffic to justify it. We specify from the light each area actually gets.
How long before new sod roots in?
Two to three weeks in growing season with correct watering, longer in cooler months. The first two weeks are the period that decides the outcome, which is why you get a specific watering schedule rather than ‘water it well’.
Why did my last lawn fail?
Usually one of three things: it was the wrong variety for the light, it was laid on compacted clay that roots could not enter, or the irrigation did not actually cover it. We check all three before quoting, because relaying the same sod on the same ground produces the same result.
Do I need irrigation for new sod?
You need reliable coverage from something. Hand watering can establish a small lawn if you are disciplined for three weeks. For anything larger, irrigation is what makes the difference, and we audit existing coverage as part of the work rather than assuming it is fine.
