What does IRP actually mean?
Insulated roof panel: a foam core bonded between two aluminum skins. The panel carries its own span, so it needs less framing than a timber roof, and the foam core is what stops the underside radiating heat down at you in the afternoon.
How much cooler is it under an insulated panel?
Materially cooler than under an uninsulated metal cover, because the foam core stops the panel re-radiating absorbed heat downward. It is the reason to choose IRP over a plain aluminum cover on a west-facing Houston patio.
Does an IRP cover need painting?
No. The finish is a factory powder-coat on both the panels and the trim. There is no ceiling to paint underneath because the panel underside is the finished surface.
Can I put a ceiling fan in an insulated panel roof?
Yes, and it should be planned at specification stage so the fixing and the wiring run inside the panel assembly. Adding one afterwards means surface conduit across a finished ceiling.
