Ask these of everyone you are considering, us included. The point is not that our answers are the only acceptable ones — it is that a contractor who cannot answer a question about base depth, drainage, or what happens after handoff has told you something useful. Our answers below are the ones published on this site, so you can check every one of them against the pages they came from.
How the work gets done
- Do you design and build, or do you subcontract the build?
The people who draw the yard are the people who build it, so the design that gets approved is the design that gets installed.
- What happens to grade and drainage, and when?
Houston soil holds water and Houston rain arrives all at once. Grade and drainage are solved before a single paver is set.
- What goes under the turf, pavers, or court?
Turf, pavers, and courts only stay flat if what is underneath them is right. The base is the part of the job nobody sees and the reason it lasts.
- Are hardscape, planting, irrigation, and lighting designed together or separately?
Hardscape, structures, lawn, planting, irrigation, and lighting are designed together rather than bolted on in separate visits.
- How are materials and plants chosen for a Houston yard?
Natural stone, travertine, large-format pavers, and shade-tolerant planting specified for heat, humidity, and clay — not for a catalog photo. Full Houston sun and deep live oak shade are different problems. Planting is selected for the light and soil each bed actually has.
Money, schedule, and paperwork
- What does landscaping cost in Houston?
Cost is driven by square footage, materials, how much grading and drainage the site needs, and access for equipment — so we do not quote a figure before seeing the property. The ranges published against each service are ballpark figures for a typical Houston project, useful for working out what is worth discussing and not a quote for yours. You get an investment range early in the design conversation and a detailed proposal before work begins.
- How long does a landscape project take?
It depends entirely on scope. A sod or artificial turf installation is usually measured in days, a patio or pergola in weeks, and a full outdoor living build with hardscape, structures, planting, and lighting in months. You get a schedule with the proposal, before anything starts.
- Do you work with architects and home builders?
Yes. We coordinate with architects, builders, and pool contractors regularly, and starting the landscape design in parallel with construction means grade, drainage, and utilities get resolved once instead of twice.
What happens after the crew leaves
- Workmanship
The installation is ours to stand behind. If something we built fails because of how it was built, we come back and correct it — the crew that installed it is the crew that returns.
- Manufacturer Coverage
Turf, pavers, lighting, irrigation components, and structural materials carry warranties from their manufacturers. We register them in your name where registration applies and hand over the documentation at closeout.
- Written Into the Agreement
Coverage periods, exclusions, and what maintenance is required to keep coverage in force are set out in the project agreement you sign — before construction starts, not after.
- Reachable Afterwards
The team that built the yard is still reachable once it is finished. A warranty is only as good as the company still answering the phone.
