Teetshorn Street Project: Outdoor Kitchen and Fire Pit in Houston Heights

One of the focal points of the yard is the fire pit lounge. A Solo Stove sits at the center of a relaxed seating area surrounded by modern chairs, creating a perfect spot for evening gatherings. Behind the seating area, a custom trellis wall supports Peggy Martin roses that will grow and soften the structure over time. To reinforce the modern aesthetic, the surrounding landscape features xeriscape planting with red yucca, agave, and muhly grass, providing texture and color while requiring very little maintenance.

For the dining area, we designed a sleek shade solution using aluminum posts and a triangular canvas sail that stretches over the space. This provides much-needed protection from the Houston sun while maintaining the open, architectural feel of the yard. Beneath the shade, large 3×3 cast stone pavers create a structured foundation for outdoor dining.

Large black planters filled with snake plants add vertical elements throughout the space, reinforcing the modern design while bringing in additional greenery.

The centerpiece of the backyard is the custom outdoor kitchen. Built with smooth white stucco and finished with a charcoal-toned countertop, the kitchen features stainless steel appliances, storage cabinetry, a built-in grill, refrigerator, and a Big Green Egg for charcoal cooking. A Spanish-style accent wall behind the kitchen adds character and depth, tying the entire design together.

The finished space delivers exactly what the homeowners envisioned, which was an ultra-modern outdoor living environment that feels stylish, functional, and inviting both day and night.
