How deep should fence posts be set in Houston clay?
Deep enough that seasonal clay movement cannot lever them, which in practice means considerably deeper than the shallow footings most quick installs use. Depth is specified against post height and exposure and is written into the proposal so you can hold us to it.
Cedar or treated pine?
Cedar is more stable, resists rot better, and greys to a colour most people prefer. Treated pine costs less and moves more, so board cupping and warping are more likely. In this humidity the difference shows within three years.
Do I need a permit or HOA approval for a fence?
HOA approval is common in Houston neighbourhoods and is often the longer lead time of the two. City permit requirements depend on height and location. We check both for your address and handle the submittals.
Will you stain the fence?
Yes, on completion, so it weathers evenly rather than greying in patches where the sun hits hardest. Fences left unstained for a season never take colour consistently afterwards.
