Is travertine too hot to walk on in a Houston summer?
No, and that is the main reason it is used here. Travertine holds far less heat than poured concrete or dark pavers, so it stays walkable barefoot when concrete beside it is not. That is why it is the default around pools and on terraces facing west.
Does travertine need sealing?
Tumbled travertine used dry-set around a pool often does not. Honed or filled travertine on a terrace that takes food, drink, and furniture usually does, and it needs redoing every few years. We tell you which applies to the stone you have chosen and what keeping it involves, before you choose it.
Travertine or pavers around a pool?
Travertine for the surface temperature, the colour range, and the coping profiles it cuts to. Concrete pavers where budget is the deciding factor or where the surround has to match existing paver hardscape. Both work over a properly built base; neither works over a thin one.
Can travertine be laid over my existing concrete pool deck?
Sometimes, if the slab is sound, drains correctly, and the added height still works at the door thresholds and the coping line. We assess the slab first rather than assuming, because overlaying a slab that is already moving just moves the stone with it.
